The class did it again, they filled our positive behavior jar with noodles. They voted to wear pajamas and bring a stuffed animal to school tomorrow (Friday, May 19). If your child chooses to participate, please make sure their stuffed animal is able to fit inside their backpack.
The class worked very hard to write haiku poems and then they created illustrations to go with them. Feel free to download and see their hard work.

The following letter was sent home earlier this week. I have received several responses, but am still waiting for many. The class will begin to create their personalized invitation in just over a week. Please be sure to let me know who plans to attend. Thank you! Dear Parents, On Thursday, May 18th from 2:45-3:30 we would like to invite you to a special poetry event with your child in their classroom. We have been focusing on reading and writing poems and your child would love to share them with you! Due to the amount of space in our classrooms, we are asking your child to pick one or two (mom, dad, aunt, uncle, grandma, older sibling, nanny, etc.) special people to attend. Please make other arrangements for younger siblings. We would love to have someone for each child, so please fill out the bottom with who will be attending. Your child will make a special invitation that will be sent out closer to the date. Sincerely, Mrs. Richmond Mrs. Stella joined us to kick off our activities for creating instruments. We discussed that instruments can make sound by blowing, hitting, plucking, rubbing, shaking, striking, and strumming.
After spring break, each student will be creating their own musical instrument. We have asked that each student bring in any recyclables they would like to use to create their instrument. Please DO NOT PURCHASE any materials for this project. The goal is to think, create, and improve as we do this project. The goal is NOT for the students to create instruments at home, but to ONLY bring materials to create their instrument at school. I look forward to sharing the process with everyone. I know the students have already thought of great instruments to create and I can't wait to see once they begin to construct them. The class has been working very hard in the room when it comes to academic work and following the Wildcat Way. They started the morning so well today that they earned the final scoops to fill out behavior jar! The class voted to wear pajamas and watch a movie tomorrow.
They can bring one stuffed animal that they choose, and parents approve, and I will choose a movie from the LMC to watch as a class at the end of the day tomorrow. Keep up the great work! The class did a great job working in groups to research different US symbols. Mrs. Corley used a green screen to enhance the experience of filming for the class. While we continue to value the partnership between home and school, we also understand there are many different ways in which our staff and parents communicate throughout the school year. Spring conferences can be a good opportunity for parents to connect with their children's teachers, yet we also want to let parents know that conferences are not a requirement of all families. Should you wish to meet with your child's teachers, please follow the normal methods that are outlined by your particular school. The class had the opportunity to share all of their knowledge about nonfiction text features by using a cool app called explain everything. Check out their hard work using the link below.

This week, Mrs. Komarek came and taught the class how to use a fun app called Chatterkids. After researching polar bears, the students worked with partners to record themselves sharing some of the facts they learned. Check out the work the students created.

The class had a great time engaging in play this afternoon. While there were many smiles, there were many opportunities for the students to discuss disagreements and problem solve solutions. The students played chess, memory, Candy Land, Mancala, and lots of other fun games and activities. What a different way to spend the afternoon and great opportunity for the students to not only have fun together, but learn to work together as well. At the end of our play time, we had a discussion and spent some time reflecting on the activities the students participated in with their friends. |
